PSY 16 ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 Units)
This course introduces the scientific study of psychopathology and atypical behaviors, broadly defined. Students investigate abnormal behavior from
a variety of perspectives including biological, psychological, and sociocultural approaches. An integrative survey of theory and research in abnormal
behavior, and intervention and prevention strategies for psychological disorders are also introduced.

Examines sexual behaviors and values in contemporary society from both a psychobiological and sociological perspective. The anatomy and
physiology of sex, sex within relationships, alternative lifestyles, fertility management, contraception, sexual dysfunction, and social roles/attitudes will
be topics for analysis and discussion. Destructive sexual behavior, rape and incest, paraphilias, and other sensitive subjects will be presented in an
explicit and scientific manner.

PSY 45 INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY (3 Units)
This course surveys psychological research methods. An emphasis is placed on research design, descriptive techniques, experimental procedures,
and the characteristics of valid assessment tools. The course also focuses on the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of research data.
Cultural considerations and the ethics of research with human and animal participants will be included. The course is designed for psychology majors
and others who require familiarity with such research techniques.
