EDUC 10 INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING (3 Units)
This course introduces students to the concepts and issues related to teaching diverse learners in contemporary schools, Kindergarten through
grade 12 (K-12). Topics include teaching as a profession and career, historical and philosophical foundations of the American education system,
contemporary educational issues, California’s content standards and frameworks, and teacher performance standards. In addition to class time, the
course requires a minimum of 45 hours of structured fieldwork in public school elementary classrooms that represent California’s diverse student
population, and includes cooperation with at least one carefully selected and campus-approved certificated classroom teacher.

IS 15 COMPUTER CONCEPTS (3 Units)
This course provides an introduction to computer and information systems concepts and terminology, an overview of hardware, and software (systems
and applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and programming), the history of the microcomputer, privacy and
legal issues, telecommunications (email and Internet), types of information systems and their roles in business, and the systems development life
cycle.
A grade of “C” or better in this course fulfills the computer familiarity requirement.

This course presents an overview of the field of psychology, a field that emphasizes the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes.
Topics include history, methodology, biopsychology, life-span development, sensation and perception, consciousness and altered states, learning and
memory, thought and language, intelligence, motivation and emotion, personality, psychopathology and therapy, stress and health, social and cultural
influences.
