Current legislation mandates that infants and young children
with disabilities and other special needs, be served in the
“natural environment”, starting at birth. This certificate of
achievement is designed to prepare students to work with
infants, toddlers and young children with disabilities and
other special needs in early intervention settings and inclusive
early care and education settings. A student who completes
the certificate, is qualified to work at the Early Intervention
Assistant I level of the California Early Start Personnel Model.*

The number one skill requested by employers is good
communication skills. The associate degree in communication
will give students a solid foundation of communication skills
for a variety of situations. The overarching program outcome
is that students will know how to gather, organize, and present
information to others with confidence and competence.
Communication courses focus on how people use messages
to generate meaning within and across various contexts,
cultures, and channels.
