The interrelationship between human systems and the relationships between the structure and functions of each system will be studied at several levels: cellular, tissue, organ, system, and organismal. This course covers the principles and laws of inorganic chemistry with an emphasis on quantitative, mathematical problem-solving. The course emphasizes problem solving and chemical calculations. Both qualitative and quantitative theory and techniques will be covered. It is intended for applied science and non-science majors or for students preparing to take Chemistry 1A. PREREQUISITES: Mathematics 103. It covers the study of several groups of compounds in organic chemistry including aromatic compounds, benzene derivatives, carbonyl compounds, amines, amino acids, lipids, and nucleic acids. Each group is analyzed in terms of their structure, physical properties, nomenclature, reactions and reaction mechanisms. Also included are the oxidation-reduction of organic functional groups and protecting groups in multistep syntheses. PREREQUISITES: Chemistry 28A. ADVISORIES: English 1A.
