Emphasis is given to communicating effectively in diverse social and professional environments. Focus will also be given to the analysis and comparisons of message perception, verbal and nonverbal communication, communication climates and language interpretation in interactions between people from different cultures. This course explores several areas of study related to computer-mediated communication including historical perspectives, relationship formation online, online dating, hyperpersonal communication, the sociology of social networks and online communities, families and online communication, privacy and safety issues, and the convergence of mass and interpersonal communication. COMM 25 ARGUMENTATION (3 Units) Argumentation is designed to provide students with the methods of critical inquiry and advocacy. Emphasis will be placed on analysis, presentation and evaluation of oral and written argumentation. This course focuses on identifying fallacies, testing evidence, and advancing a reasoned position while defending and refuting arguments. Students will write a minimum of 6,000 words during the course of the semester. PREREQUISITES: Completion of English 1A or 1AH and Communication 1, 1H, 4, or 8.
