Clovis Community College – Spring 2018 Class Schedule 138 successfully transfer to a CSU or UC campus. STEM is a free federal TRIO program that serves students who are first generation, low-income or have a disability. Benefits of the Student Support Services include: Priority Registration, Academic Advising , Career Planning, Study Skills Workshops, Financial Aid Advising, Transfer Assistance, Cultural Events, and College Campus Tours. Tutorial Center & Writing Services The Clovis Community College Tutorial Center offers qualified, well-trained peer tutors in subjects such as English, math, and science. Peer tutors are available to assist students with writing assignments, subject comprehension, test preparation, and study skills development. Students may call or drop-in to set up a one-on-one appointment for writing; all other subjects are offered on a walk-in basis with several tutors rotating through the room to assist students. Writing tutors are trained to provide assistance on any academic writing assignment; during a session, students can work on the many aspects of the writing process, including topic choice, brainstorming, revision, document formats, and elements of editing. At the beginning of each semester, students taking an English course can also enroll in English 272 (Assistance in College Writing), a 0.5-1.0 unit, credit/no credit course. Students are put into groups of 3-4 based on course level; groups meet 2 times weekly for 50-minute sessions. Students are required to complete 27 sessions to earn 0.5 unit of credit or 54 sessions to earn 1.0 unit of credit. Writing services and subject specific services are available free of charge to all SCCCD students (except for English 272, which carries a credit unit fee). In addition, there are educational benefits for dependents (spouses and/or children) of veterans under the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program.
