COURSE DESCRIPTION: A course which includes instruction and practice in beginning level skills, techniques, and strategies. PREREQUISITES: None
COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
*For the student to attain and understand the basic rules and strategies of tennis, including scoring.
*For the student to learn, demonstrate, and practice the basic fundamental techniques used while participating in the sport of tennis, including groundstrokes, serve, volley, and overhead.
*For the student to work cooperatively with classmates and instructor.
*To enhance the student's interest in racquetball as a life-long activity.
COURSE
OUTCOMES:
*Students will have the ability to execute the fundamental techniques and scoring utilized in the game of racquetball, while simultaneously incorporating various strategies. Students will assess tennis as a possible life-long activity.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:

2. Dress appropriately. Tennis shoes are mandatory. Sweats, pants or shorts with pockets.
3. No jeans. Failure to wear appropriate clothing is an absence.
4. Be courteous with classmates, other classes, and instructors. As we will work in pairs and groups, you will need to provide feedback to your classmates.
5. Inform instructor of any preexisting medical conditions.
6. I strongly suggest you bring a water bottle or sports drink. Hydration is an important element to consider when exercising!!
6. Immediately report any injury to instructor.
7. Strongly recommend to bring your own racket.

GRADING
PROCEDURES:
*Three written assignments, 20 points each
*Three skills evaluations, 20 points each
*40 points for tournament participation.
*90% and above= A; 80-89% = B; 70-79%= C; 60-69%= D; 59% and below= F.
TENTATIVE CLASS SCHEDULE:
Weeks 1, 2, & 3: Class Procedures & Introduction; Fundamentals of the volley, forehand, backhand, serve, & rules.
Weeks 4, 5, & 6: Basic Strategy; Overheads
Weeks 7, 8, & 9: Doubles
Week 10-18: Tournament/Matches
Week 15 Tiebreaker
IMPORTANT
DATES THIS SEMESTER:
January 16 (M): Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday—Campus closed
February 17-20(F-M):
Presidents’ Day
March 10 (F): Nine-week drop deadline for full-length course. (Letter grades assigned after this date.)
April 10-14: Spring recess. No classes held, however campus is open.
May 15-19: Final Exams week.
