COURSE DESCRIPTION:  A course which includes instruction and practice in beginning level skills, techniques, and strategies. PREREQUISITES: None

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

*For the student attain, understand, and subsequently practice the basic rules and strategies utilized in the sport of racquetball.

*For the student to demonstrate the basic techniques used in the sport of racquetball.  These techniques include the forehand, backhand, and serve(s).

*For the student to work cooperatively with classmates and instructor.

*To enhance the student's interest in racquetball as a life-long activity.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

*Students will have the ability to execute the fundamental techniques and scoring utilized in the game of racquetball, while simultaneously incorporating various strategies.  Students will asses racquetball as a possible life-long activity.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:

1. Be on time. The class will meet and begin at 9:05 between the tennis courts and racquetball courts. Class will be dismissed at 9:45

2. Dress appropriately. Wear clothing you are able to exercise in.  Tennis shoes are mandatory.  No jeans.  Failure to wear appropriate clothing is an absence.

3. Be courteous with classmates, other classes, and instructors. As we will work in pairs and groups, you will need to provide feedback to your classmates.

4. Inform instructor of any preexisting medical conditions.

5. I strongly suggest you bring a water bottle or sports drink. Hydration is an important element to consider when exercising!!

6.   Goggles are required!!

7.  Proceed with extreme caution when entering rooms.  Knock and listen.  Doors opening while students are participating can be extremely dangerous.

8.  Immediately report any injury to instructor.

SAFETY IS A MAJOR CONCERN AT ALL TIMES!!

 

 

 

GRADING PROCEDURES:

*Three written assignments, 20 points each

*Three skills evaluations, 20 points each

*30 points for tournament & ladder  participation. 

*90% and above= A; 80-89% = B; 70-79%= C; 60-69%= D; 59% and below= F.

TENTATIVE CLASS SCHEDULE:

Weeks 1, 2, & 3: Class Procedures & Introduction; Fundamentals of forehand, backhand, serve, & rules.

Weeks 4, 5, & 6: Basic Strategy; Cutthroat

Weeks 7, 8, & 9: Specialty Shots; doubles

Week 10-18:                 Tournament/Matches

 

IMPORTANT DATES THIS SEMESTER:

January 16 (M):                       Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday—Campus closed

February 17-20(F-M):            Presidents’ Day Holiday—Campus closed

March 10 (F):                          Nine-week drop deadline for full-length course.  (Letter grades assigned after this date.)

April 10-14:                            Spring recess.  No classes held, however campus is open.

May 15-19:                   Commencement.
