Topics covered include the indigenous origins of Mexican society, the Spanish colonial period, the Spanish and Mexican roots of the contemporary American Southwest, and the role played by Mexican Americans in the social, economic, political, and cultural development of the United States from the Mexican War (1846-1848) to the present.
